Calling into Police Dispatch...

A call received from a citizen requesting either emergency or non-emergency police response to provide a service or assistance.

A call for service is an event occurring in or near Coos County to which one or more Coos County law enforcement, fire department and EMS employees must respond to evaluate or take action, or an event that needs to come to the attention of police or is initiated by police that requires formal documentation (e.g., case report, supplemental report or accident report).

Examples include:

-Citizens reporting a theft/burglary/robbery

-Citizens reporting a neighbor problem or suspicious activity

-Citizens reporting a ringing alarm bell

-Citizens reporting a fire

-Citizens reporting a shooting or the sound of shots fired

-Citizens reporting a traffic accident with or without injuries

-Citizens reporting a fugitive or someone with warrants

-Citizens finding or reporting a stolen vehicle

-Citizens making a lawful arrest

Record Keeping

Any calls for service should be personally logged with date, time, and location. Any incident or identifier should be logged for law enforcement, fire department or EMS for reference.

Upon investigation, some calls for service are called crimes and are classified as incidents for the purpose of reporting to law enforcement, fire department or EMS.

Not all police contacts with the public are calls for service, and not all calls for service are crimes.

Calls for Service

Most calls for service generated by anyone patrolling should also be posted to our public Facebook group and/or our private Patrol Chat. This allows all other members to view calls for service data pertaining to the police . A call for service is a call from the public requesting police, fire, or rescue emergency or non-emergency response. When viewing police dispatch logs after an incident, please note that these logs only depict calls for service assigned to police units. Not all calls for service are displayed in dispatch logs as certain types of calls are excluded from public disclosure. This underscores the importance of everyone patrolling keeping their own notes. You may be called on later as a witness and notes can play an important part in refreshing your memory of an incident.

Privacy & Data

To address issues of privacy, name information may not be displayed in dispatch logs. Similarly, each individual listing displays the call address only to the nearest hundred block. For example, if a call for service originated at 10031 Bridge Road, this report would display the location as the 10000 block of Bridge Road. Because this data is preliminary and may change upon investigation, Coos County law enforcement gives no guarantee as to the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or correct sequencing of the information. Additionally, since the information is evolving, it cannot be used for comparisons over time. Coos County law enforcement is not responsible for any error or omission or for the use of or the results obtained from the use of this information.

Dispositions

Please realize that the existence of a record of a call for service to any address may not necessarily be indicative of any violation of law. Often times police are dispatched to an address for reasons unrelated to unlawful conduct. Additionally, you should not draw a negative inference simply because a disposition may be listed as "offense report" or "arrest made." Anyone listed in dispatch logs is assumed innocent until proven guilty.

If you'd like to volunteer, please send an email to CCNWATCH@PM.ME
