Coalbank Village Comfortable Housing for the Criminals of Coos County

Letter by Samual Adams

Coalbank Village. A place where the deveroux center website claims “comfortable housing to those beginning their journey towards a brighter future”. So what kinds of people does coalbank village house? One was interviewed by the local news, then on feb. 6, 2023 went on to break into the dodge dealership, steal a jeep while police arrive, drive the jeep through the dealers garage door and begin a high speed chase with police.
On October 8, 2023 a man was arrested at coalbank village for failing to register as a sex offender times 2.

On November 29, 2023, a couple residing in coalbank village were both arrested. The woman was arrested by CBPD for extraditable warrants out of Idaho. The man was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. To give some perspective of their time in coos bay, let’s see how they got here. On July 8, 2023, a newspaper article was printed in Idaho, asking for help with locating 2 wanted fugitives. On August 12, 2023, only a month later, CBPD found them in a stolen vehicle.

These are only the residents of coalbank village that commit newsworthy crimes.

Countless more criminals have been in coalbank village, given safe harbor under the guise of “helping the homeless”. 19 pallet homes that share a kitchen and lounging area, with unregistered sex offenders. How many people did coalbank village put at risk? You can not begin a journey to a brighter future when you have warrants for your arrest and refuse to register as a sex offender. These people are hiding from their crimes and coalbank village clearly does not have the safety of their residents as a priority if they house active criminals and harbor fugitives from the law. Where is the accountability? Why is the city of coos bay wanting to partner with the deveroux center and use urban renewal tax dollars to help harbor fugitives?

I know I don’t want my taxes used to harbor fugitives! The city of coos bay needs to be held accountable for wanting to financially support this blight in our town.
